The Department of Physics at UPEI offers three degree programs. Each can be done with the Co-operative Education option.
The BSc degree with Major in Physics is designed to produce broadly educated graduates who have an extensive understanding of physics concepts as well as the basic theoretical and experimental skill to apply this knowledge. Graduates of this program typically go on to careers in pure and applied research, biophysics and medical physics, electronics, materials science, oceanography, meteorology, geophysics, and education.
The BSc degree with Honours in Physics adds valuable research experience to the course work of the Major in Physics. This will appeal to students who intend to pursue a graduate degree in physics or related field, or who are planning careers where research experience would be an asset.
The BSc degree with a Major in Physics for Engineering Diploma Students is of interest to engineering students who seek to fully understand the physical principles which form the basis of both present-day and future engineering practice and design.
A Minor in Physics is also available for students who are majoring in another discipline but nevertheless wish to obtain a significant knowledge of physics. For further information on our courses and programs of study, see the UPEI Academic Calendar or contact us.
Forms
The following program checklist forms have been created to assist you in charting your progress through your Physics degree. Print the form for the program you are persuing and fill it in as you complete your courses. It is highly recommneded that you bring this form with you whenever you seek the Department's advice on course selection, etc.
Notes on individual courses and labs
The content of the old Biophysics 332 course has been split and expanded into the separate versions of Biophysics 341 and 342. If you took the older Biophysics 332 course, you cannot take one of the new courses for credit as a significant portion of the material would be the same.
Moodle and individual course websites
The department hosts many of our individual course content and information using the moodle course management system. Please contact the individual instructor of the course (as listed on the timetable) if you require more information.
